This is 3Bits & Change, an email about building a service and retail business. This one was written to Olafur Arnalds and his band in a vast open space in Iceland. HT, Kelly.
The Sharpow positioning effort continues. The last round was about why people don’t sharpen from a psychographic perspective. This time… why do they sharpen?
//no.1 - Go have a deep think
Here are the raw materials regarding why people do sharpen that I’ve distilled:
Higher quality of food from slices vs. smooshes - plus you know what’s your food when you do the prepwork and cooking.
Safer and more efficient use
Speed up prep and improve results
Protect investment in the knives
//no.2 - What household items we do the same thing with?
And I got to thinking… what if the product was something else?
If it were a stain remover… you’d use a stick to recover your clothes from the stain and protect your investment.
If it were a car, you’d want it to be safer and faster. You’d also, maybe, want it to be fun. A little cheeky?
If it were a drink, you’d want it to be refreshing. You’d have an “ah” moment with it.
//no.3 - And here is the positive frame
If Sharpow was a:
Stain Remover in stick form
“Your tomatoes called. They deserve respect.”
“From disaster to ready it seconds.”
Car
“Sharp is the safe speed.”
“Fast food, without the drive-thru.”
Drink
“Dull knives murder flavor.”
“Slaughter prep time.”
Sum
After the above I began to daydream about kitchen knives as if they were pets. And that’s where “Your knives want to be sharp” came into view. More to come on this adventure.
