Good day!
We’ve been working on updating the logomark. Thanks for hitting reply a few issues back and providing your perspective.
We landed here.
Bit #1 • Visually strong and memorable
In early design rounds, I hated this one. And yet, it was the “strongest” of them all for staying power over days. It’s the one I could think back on and remember.
It has some unique lettering. It amplifies the v’s. It has a knife in it. This version is set atop a shape that could pass as a cutting board. That’s quite a list and it all stands in favor of said mark.
Bit #2 • Bold + versatile
In this state, with the negative space, it can take a sub brand tagline and stand strong. That arching shape is a new brand element too.
Bit #3 • Stick it on things
We can’t wait to stitch this into hats and aprons and stick it on stuff. Think of lasering this thing on the side of a knife or on a knife roll. It’ll go great.
We stuck it all over our socials and on the .com before telling the team we were going to go with it. It was important to “feel it” coming up in profile pictures and headers for a few days before giving the go ahead.
We’ll work up a packaging and inserts next and schedule another photo shoot.
Sum
We’re stoked to have this mark. We’ll get behind it, literally, when we put it on our hats and or shirts. The process was squirrely. But, it was also good.
Onward!
Change
One of you sent me a link to a story about Chefs Brigaid last week. A day later two more of you sent other ones. Thanks all!
This group was founded and lead by an accomplished chef and focused on empowering institutions to transform their food service operations. A pile of their work is with school districts. I’m looking forward to connecting with them soon.Check these headlines from this week:
• “Western Pa. school districts worry about how to feed students this year without free lunches”
• “California to begin offering free meals in all public schools this year”
• “For first time in 5 years, middle, West Feliciana high, middle school students to pay for meals”
Depending on the state and/or district, children and their families will have wildly different experiences paying for lunch this school year. The instructions for how to fill out the “MDE Educational Benefits” form that may qualify a family for reduced or free lunch are longer than the form is. Here’s just the the form in MN. Check your school district page for a link to your instructions and form.
On Your Way
Find a hour to go lay in the sun this week? Maybe? Do it out of frivolousness? Soak that heat in. It’s August!
